STUDY QUESTIONS - JOHN, CHAPTER 20

   
1 John mentions only Mary Magdalene going to the tomb, whereas writers of the other gospels mention additional women.  What do you take from that?
2 What do you find interesting about vs. 6 and 7? What do you think John saw, and what did he believe?
3 Why do you think the risen Jesus chose to show himself first to Mary Magdalene before any of the others? 
4 Why do you think Mary didn’t recognize Jesus?  Have you ever failed to recognize Jesus standing next to you?  How has he called your name?
5 What examples does Mary Magdalene set in Chapter 20 that you find worthy of following in your Christian life?
6 What new relationship does Jesus refer to in v. 17, and what meaning could this have in your Christian walk?
7 Why do you think Jesus says “peace be with you” so many times to the disciples in vs. 19, 21, and 26?  At what times in your life have you most needed to hear those words from Jesus?
8 What do you think Jesus meant by what he says in vs. 21 and 22, and how can you use those words to rededicate your life to Him?
9 What is Jesus telling you in v. 23, and what does it call you to do?
10 What are your thoughts on Thomas’s doubting and Jesus’ response?  Do you think it is OK to doubt your faith?
11 In vs. 30 and 31, what do you think John is urging Christians to do, and for what reason?

1 Why do you think the disciples failed to catch anything, even though they fished all night?
2 What is the lesson in v. 6? When has Jesus guided you in that way, and how did it turn out?
3 Why do you think John was able to recognize Jesus when the others did not, and what can we learn from this example?
4 What is your understanding of Peter's actions in vs. 7-11?
5 What might be the significance of the number of fish totaling 153?
6 What do you think the net represents, and why did it not break with such a heavy catch?
7 What points are worth noting in the conversation between Jesus and Simon peter in vs. 15-17?
8 Are you taking care of Jesus' sheep? Is our congregation? How could we do a better job?
