Lent
Newsletter
On Wednesday, we begin the season of Lent, a time of repentance
and reflection. We follow Jesus' walk to Jerusalem; a walk that
with each step brought him closer to his death, but which he did
for our sake. During these forty days, we acknowledge our need
to turn away from that which does not give life, and turn to
God. We begin by marking our foreheads with ashes, a reminder
that we are dust, and to dust we shall return. We continue on,
seeking to become better disciples, followers of our crucified
Lord. And we close staring up at that cross, witnessing the
sinless one who took our sin.
Gathering together on Ash Wednesday, we begin Lent with worship
on February 17th, and we will gather at 7:30pm in silent prayer.
We will continue worshipping on Wednesdays in Lent, focusing on
the book of Genesis. Each week we will hear another story about
God's active love in the world and how these stories of faith
interact with our own stories.
February
24- Creation: Genesis 1-2
March 3- The Flood: Genesis 6-9
March 10- Abraham and Sarah: Genesis 12-25
March 17- Jacob: Genesis 25-33
March 24- Joseph: Genesis 37-50
On Sundays in Lent we will take time to reflect on our giving,
also called benevolence, both as individuals and as a
congregation. Why do we give? Where does our money go? What
happens to it when it gets there? We will have special guests
come and speak about how our giving helps, including Rev. Scott
Schantzenbach from the New Jersey Synod and Dennis Micai,
Executive Director of Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.

Budget
Workshop
On February 27th, Al Cowell of Thrivent Financial will come and
lead a workshop on how to budget our finances. In this time of
economic uncertainty, we need to be able to use our money the
best way we can so that we control our money rather than it
controlling us. Please plan to join us. We will meet in the
Fellowship Hall from 1-3pm, and snacks will be provided. If you
need childcare, please let us know in advance.
Please check the
calendar for other events.
