Lent is a season for us to refocus our lives on
our relationship with God. One of the most important ways that we can grow
in our relationship with God is to study His word. However, many times we
have no idea where to start or what to read.
If we do
happen to open our Bibles everything is strange, doesn’t make a whole lot of
sense, and maybe confusing or even boring. We are not sure how this book
relates to our lives. I have to say that we as Lutherans have done a very
poor job of helping our members to open their Bibles and figure out what is
actually in there.
In order to
assist you as you seek to make God’s word relevant to your lives, our
congregation is going to take time during this Lenten season to focus on one
book of the Bible – the Psalms. The Psalms are the prayerbook and hymns of
the Jewish and Christian people. They are poetry that speaks to our
hearts. They are the perfect place to start reading the Bible. The psalms
are written by faithful people who are struggling to make sense of life, the
good and the bad. They connect to the experiences that many of us have even
today.
I encourage
every person to take 15 minutes a day and read through the Psalms and
Proverbs. The selections for each day can be found on the calendar enclosed
in this newsletter, as well as in each week’s Sunday worship bulletin. Open
your heart to God’s Word.
In addition to
our reading, our Wednesday Evening Lenten Worship will focus on the Psalms
and helping us connect the Psalms to our daily lives in addition to our
reading.
Lent is a
wonderful opportunity to refocus on building your relationship with God.
Make the commitment this Lent to grow in your faith by studying God’s Word
and coming to worship on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening.

May God be
with you on your Lenten Journey.
