Refugee Assistance Ministry
* Helping Out Our Neighbors in Need *

Who to Contact If You Want to Help

A few years ago St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church made a commitment to help many refugees from Burma, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Africa and other countries around the world. They come to the United States to flee from religious, political or military unrest in their home country or for many other reasons. Many of these refugees do not speak English and are most are unfamiliar with our public transportation, job search, social assistance programs (food stamps, etc.), travel, customs and many things that we take for granted. They need assistance to get the basics of life - food, shelter, transportation, etc. St. Bart has been able to help many refugees since our commitment to this effort began but unfortunately we are not able to help all of them.

From time to time some of the refugees are in need of various basic necessities in their lives.

Items needed on a continuous basis are:

● blankets and comforters

● detergents, cleaning items

● bed linens

● curtains

● towels and washcloths

● furniture: especially kitchen tables and chairs, coffee tables

● umbrellas

● personal hygiene items

● children's ponchos or hooded rain-jackets

● TVs, VCRs, VHS tapes (these aid in learning English)

● coats and warm clothing (seasonal)

● Raw rice (not Minute Rice)

● pots, pans, dishes, glasses, silverware

● toys

Praise God for the wonderful response of the St. Bartholomew congregation to our request for items for the Refugee Ministry.  We must also praise God for the bountiful support of the Mercer Mission Cluster and its member Congregations. The lives of our friends from other countries have been so enriched because of the work that God has been doing through us here at St. Bart’s and with the help of others.

Please bring donations to the church or contact Jack Fletcher at 609-477-9214 for pickup.  Thank you so much for your continued participation in this effort.  God bless.
