How will you know
that I have been in your church? All Worshippers are encouraged to
complete the white information/prayer concerns sheet insert in the bulletin.
The information that you give us lets us know that you were at Worship and
enables us to contact you for more information. It also lets us know who
communed and any prayer concerns you may have. Please fill out the insert
each week that you attend service.
What is
your church affiliation? St. Bartholomew is a member of the New
Jersey Synod who is a member of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America).
Does your church have a
specific mission? Of course our
primary mission came from Jesus and can be found in Matthew 28:19-20:
Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I command
you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Our Mission Statement
tells who we are and what we believe. The
Groups of St. Bart can be interpreted as our method to accomplish
God's mission for us. In the recent past our general mission has been
Outreach to God's people in the surrounding community and even to others
outside of our immediate community. At the same time we don't overlook the needs of the members of
St. Bartholomew.
Is your
church handicap accessible? Our church is handicap accessible to
the sanctuary and main level of the church as well as to the Fellowship Hall
located on the lower level of the church. The ramp for the main level is on
the Lakeside avenue side of the church and the Fellowship Hall ramp is
accessible from the sidewalk located on the S. Clinton Avenue side of the
church (front). In addition there is handicap
parking in the parking lot and also on S. Clinton Avenue in front of the
church.
I am
hearing and/or vision impaired,
can you help me with your Worship service? We have a speaker system
to assist hearing impaired individuals during the Worship service. Please
ask the ushers to seat you in the best location to hear the speakers. We ask
the vision
impaired individuals to advise us in advance so we will be certain to have large-print copies
of the Worship service and songs.
Will I be able to follow along during the Worship
service or is it complicated? The entire Worship service, with the
exception of the songs, is located in the bulletin that you will receive when
you enter the church. Please ask an usher or another member if you have any
questions about service.
Is your church warm
during summer services? Summer services are made comfortable in any
of 3 manners. For hot days we have an air conditioning system that cools the
sanctuary and on other warm days we may use the ceiling fans or open
windows to circulate the air.
How do I
contact someone other than the office contact information shown above?
If you are searching for a specific individual you can contact the church
office (contact information above) but if you are searching for a Group
contact person within the church, you can
for a listing of Groups in St. Bart.
Who do I talk to about potential church
membership or Baptism? You can call or email the Church office
(above) and your inquiry will be promptly forwarded to the proper person.
Can I bring
small children to your Worship service? Yes. A nursery is available for
children ages 6 and under. The preschool children are encouraged to remain
in Worship service until the Kids in Christ time, then the adult nursery
attendant will take them to the nursery. The children will return before
Communion. Babies and toddlers may remain in the nursery if desired.
What if my
children remain in Worship service? Children's reading books, bulletins and
coloring books are available for children during the Worship Service. They
are in the back of the Church. Please ask an usher for assistance.
Do you have a youth
group? There are several Youth Groups in St. Bart.
Click here for a list of these groups. St.
Bart has committed to focus more attention to our youth and the youth of the
community around us. Some of the older youth participate in Synod and ELCA
sponsored activities throughout the year.
Do you have a
church choir? We do not have a vocal choir but we have
instrumental 'choir' groups.
find out more information. Various musical opportunities are available.
Can I take a
tour of the church and your other facilities? Yes. You can ask
any usher or other church member to show our you our facilities. We are
proud of our church and are anxious to show it to you.
Click here for a virtual tour of St. Bart.
How often does your church
offer Communion? Communion is offered each week unless we don't
have an ordained pastor at the service, which is very seldom.
Can I take
Communion at your church? Yes. The Body and Blood of Christ is
available to anyone who has been Baptized in the name of the
Lord.
A blessing is given to those who have not been Baptized.
Do I have to
be a member of the church to
participate in church activities? Membership is not necessary to
participate in St. Bart Groups. Participation in some of the
Groups may be recommended as you may
be representing St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church. Most of the church
activities are intended to be open to all people - members and non-members.
How do I get to
your church? Click here for directions from
nearly anywhere. If you don't have GPS and still need directions, please
call or email the church office. The
Contact
Information and Directions page also has a link to a
MapQuest map and
directions if desired.
Since you are a city church, what kind of
parking facilities do you have? God smiled on St. Bart and gave
us our own off-street parking lot across the alley directly behind the
church. Many city churches aren't this fortunate to have a parking lot to
minimize street parking and give us a location for large activities such as
the annual Neighborhood Barbecue.
Do you have a
church preschool? St. Bart does not have a church operated
preschool but Trenton Head Start uses a portion of our church's educational
wing.
What Worship
books do you use during service? We use the
Evangelical Lutheran Worship book (red book) for the liturgy and
songs in our
Worship services. This is the new core Worship resource for the ELCA. It has
a family of print, electronic and web-based resources. Each pew also
contains several New Revised Standard Versions of the Holy Bible.
What are some of the
different groups that you have in your
church? The best way to answer this question is to
click here and follow the link to a general listing
of the Groups of St. Bart. While most of our Groups are based
in Outreach, most can also be categorized into other areas such as Youth,
Music, etc. |
